Cultural Workshop with Goombine and Candace Scott-Moore

Goombine presents traditional tools and instruments of Australian Indigenous origin.

On April 26th, CIT was invited to witness the reappropriation of sacred hunting weapons and tools from the Tranzac Club by Goombine (Richard Scott-Moore), Indigenous Australian Lore Man of Weapons and Tools. This ceremony was followed by a week-long workshop with CIT students, where Goombine generously shared his stories and wisdom, along with traditional Yuin song and dance.

Goombine (Richard Scott-Moore) comes from the Yuin Nation along the Southeast Coast of New South Wales, Australia. He is a Songman, carrying ancient songs that have been passed down through his bloodline for thousands of years. He continues to tour around the world sharing traditional songs, stories, and dances with people from all walks of life.

Candace Scott-Moore (Wilde) [Anishinaabe – Ojibwe Potawatomi] has 20+ years of experience working in production. Some career highlights include: Producer of Tkaronto Music Festival, Indigenous Fashion Arts Festival 2022 and 2021 Summer Solstice Indigenous Music Awards. Candace is also a CIT alumni!

It is important to Goombine that he continues to teach and share his culture, so the cultural practices, ceremonies, songs, and dances remain alive and vibrant. He often shares the powerful catch-phrase, "you have to give it away to keep it!"
